Sustainable Agriculture

Intensifying and expanding the campaign on Sustainable agricultural practices like NPM, LEISA, multiple cropping with fruit trees, food crops, fodder and other useful vegetation. in order to (a) reduce the cost of cultivation, (b) mitigate the risk of droughts, (c) make agriculture pollution free and ecologically sustainable, and enable farmers to cope with drought.

§      Rainfed Farmers

§      Farmers with groundwater irrigation (users of chemical fertilizers and pesticides).

Integrated Cropping models – Experiments and Demonstrations:

AF is developing integrated cropping models that are suitable for Anantapur agro-ecological conditions, particularly for rainfed small and marginal farmers.  The cropping models integrate annual crops, tree crops and animals on one side and low cost eco-friendly technologies on the other side.  The cropping models are 1. Integrated Farming System (IFS) 2. Bio Intensive Farming in Rainfed Areas (BIFSRA)  3. Multiple Fruit Tree Cropping (MFTC), 4. Intensive Biomass Development  5. Farm-Forestry (more about cropping models)

§      Rainfed Small & Marginal Farmers with focus on women.

Skill Training Rural youth

Equipping Youth both girls and boys to join Mainstream (Modern Economy) in the non-farm sector

§      Youth (15-35 years girls & boys) from farm labour and rainfed farmers.

Gender:

Promoting and emphasizing gender and social equity in the programmes and enhance the role of women in family decisions.

Development of CBOs.

Promoting Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in order to influence and catalyze change towards Sustainable Agriculture, build democracy and peace in rural areas by constituting and developing their capacities and leadership.

§      New activity based groups as and when necessary from farm labour and rainfed farmers

Policy Advocacy and Networking.

Promoting Advocacy and Policy Promotion by networking CBOs, NGOs & CSOs and creating a voice of people for a favourable policy and programme environment.
